Big Brown heavy favorite for Preakness

Posted on May 15, 2008 | 4:05 PM ET Filed under:

Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown is the prohibitive 1-2 favorite for Saturday's 133rd Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. The colt will face 12 other three-year-olds in the $1 million, 1 3/16 mile race. Owned by IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr., Big Brown is undefeated in four career starts, having won the races by a total of nearly 34 lengths. The three-year-old will again be ridden by Kent Desormeaux and the pair will start from post seven. Desormeaux won the 1998 Preakness aboard Real Quiet.

Arkansas Derby champ Gayego is the only other Kentucky Derby horse to be entered in the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.

A victory on Saturday would put Big Brown just one win, the Belmont Stakes, away from becoming the 12th Triple Crown winner and the first since Affirmed did it back in 1978.

Catch the race Saturday, May 17, 2008. Post-time is 6:15 PM ET on NBC.
