NBA Playoffs: Lakers at Jazz, Game 3; Friday, 9:30 p.m. ET
Posted on May 8, 2008 | 8:35 AM ET Filed under:The Los Angeles Lakers are up 2-0 in their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal versus the Utah Jazz. Los Angeles won both games by double digits to remain perfect in the playoffs at 6-0 straight up and against the spread. Utah has fallen to 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS.
The Jazz have yet to find a solution to newly-christened league MVP Kobe Bryant. Game 2 on Wednesday night was much the same as Game 1. Bryant scored 34 points on 11-for-18 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. Pau Gasol dominated the middle with 20 points, five boards, five assists and five blocks. And the Lakers took a big early lead that Utah couldn’t quite regain in the second half.
Utah was a stronger team in Game 2; as expected, Deron Williams was much better after two days of rest from Sunday’s opener, scoring 25 points and adding 10 assists. But Carlos Boozer continued his slump with a 3-for-10 night for 10 points. Boozer sat out much of the first half with foul trouble; the Jazz committed 30 personal fouls to 20 for Los Angeles, a sign of Utah’s inability to contain the Lakers’ offense. “We can't foul them,” coach Jerry Sloan told the Associated Press after the game. “We’ve put them at the line 89 times. That’s way too many.”
Utah was the best home team in the NBA this year at 37-4 SU and 29-12 ATS. But the Lakers beat the Jazz as 6-point road dogs back on Mar. 20 – and that was with Gasol injured.
